Submit advertising to
leaderads@mvtel.net

Points to remember:

• when submitting via e-mail, we suggest putting “Leader ads” or “Leader news” in the subject line to help distinguish the message from the large amount of spam we receive. We recommend calling our office to confirm receipt of ads, or requesting confirmation via e-mail. Keep in mind that ads may be delayed in transmission so allow plenty of time before deadline.

 • photos are best submitted in jpg or tiff formats. Images at 72 dpi should be larger than 5 inches in width.

• text files should be saved as plain text or rich text format, or as Word documents.  In most cases, and especially with short classified ads, it is best to include the text in the body of an e-mail rather than in an attachment.

• programs we use include CorelDraw, InDesign, Illustrator, Word and Photoshop. We can NOT open files created in Publisher, WordPerfect and some other commonly used programs.

• ads containing both text and graphics that are created in Word serve to illustrate intended designs, but it is difficult to extract the graphic elements from Word. Please submit graphics separately as well.

• PDF is the preferred format for receiving camera-ready ads.

• information may be submitted via e-mail, or on diskette/CD/DVD.

 NEWS

The Leader’s award-winning news staff takes pride in each issue. We never forget we are a hometown newspaper, where local news comes first. You won’t find international, national or even state news on our pages unless it relates directly to Stone County.

Publisher James R. Fraser has been in the newspaper business since 1969.

News editor/Photographer Lori Freeze has been with the Leader for more than 20 years.

Photographer/Cartoonist Ed Schuh has been with the Leader for more than 20 years.

Reporter Edie Nicholson has worked in newspapers since 1995.

The Stone County Leader has won more than 200 awards in Arkansas Press Association contests since 1985 under Fraser’s ownership.

Newspapers in Education

We are proud to participate in Newspapers In Education with our local school district, providing copies of the newspaper for use in classroom activities to nearly 500 students when class is in session. We are able to do this with the generous support of the program sponsors: Mountain View Telephone Company and the Bank of Mountain View.

 ADVERTISING

The Stone County Leader offers a professional and experienced design staff capable of producing advertising that gets results. If you need photography, artwork, ad copy or a concept for a multi-week ad series, the Leader can help. Our staff won the top advertising award in the Arkansas Press Association’s Larger Weekly Division in 2006.

Advertisers have several options to reach readers. Display ads are sold by the column inch, which offers total flexibility to suit designs and budgets. Classified word ads enjoy great readership, and the monthly rate in our Business and Service Directory is the most economical way to advertise a service.

RATES: The open rate for display ads in our main news section and classified display section is $6.30 per column inch. Word ads run 15 cents per word with a $3 minimum, and we offer free non-commercial classified word ads to our subscribers.

We also offer discounts for frequency and volume, and special contract rates. Contact Rusty Fraser or Linda Kroon Van Diest for more information.

Click here for our complete rate card.

DEADLINES: The deadline for display and classified advertising is each Monday at noon. Ads that require a proof prior to publication must be submitted by Friday at noon.

 LEADER

HISTORY

The Stone County Leader was first published in April, 1952, by Maurice Tudor. He later sold the newspaper to his brother, Edward, who published it for several years. Only three other owners have been on record since then: James Franks, Rupert Phillips, and James R. Fraser, who purchased the Leader in 1985. It remains an independently owned publication.

Our office building on Main Street is on the National Register of Historic Places, and is most known for being Stigall’s grocery store.

The Leader’s “Sniffing Out the News” logo was drawn by cartoonist Jan Gosnell in the 1970s and Sniffer the bloodhound has been our mascot ever since.
