LEADER

   POLICIES

We will not knowingly publish any news item or advertisement which has the intent to harm or embarrass someone.

Weddings/Engagements – Engagement announcements will be accepted up to six months before the wedding date. Post-wedding articles must be submitted within eight weeks of the wedding. Photos may be color or black-and-white (they will be published only in b/w) and must be a suitable size and resolution for reproduction. For instance, if the photo is 72dpi, it must be at least six inches wide. 200 dpi is the preferred setting, and photos may be four inches wide at that resolution. If you need assistance writing your announcement, contact us at 870-269-3841. We reserve the right to edit submitted material to meet space limitations. Information and photos may be e-mailed to leader@mvtel.net. A phone number must be provided in case there are questions.

Birth announcements – birth announcements must be submitted in writing within eight weeks of the birth. Contact information for the mother must be provided in case of questions. If a photo is desired, the announcement must be placed as a paid advertisement. Cost is based on space required.

Obituaries – obituaries are generally submitted by a funeral home and are printed by the Leader at no charge. Families may write and submit obituaries if they choose, but in cases of conflicting versions, the person closest in kin will have the right to choose which is published. We reserve the right to edit obituaries to conform to standard format. Photos are included at no charge as space allows. Photos must be recent.

Memorials – Memorials must be placed as paid advertisements. Cost is based on the space required.

Letters to the editor – Letters may be submitted on paper or by e-mail and contain the author’s name, as well as a telephone number and address for verification. Letters will not be published anonymously. Comments regarding published articles, or opinions on topics of current interest are welcomed. Letters concerning political issues are acceptable, but letters may not be used simply to endorse or condemn a particular candidate. Priority will be given to letters that are the most clear, concise and are submitted exclusively to the Leader. All letters are subject to editing for clarity or to prevent libel. Letters should be fewer than 400 words.

Political announcements – During election years, announcements that candidates are running for office will be accepted as news announcements prior to the filing period and until the filing period ends. At that time, a complete list of all candidates for office will be printed and no further free announcements will be published.

FREQUENTLY

  ASKED

    QUESTIONS

• How do I submit wedding announcement information?
You may e-mail information to leader@mvtel.net and attach a photo if desired. Photos may be color or black-and-white (they will be published only in b/w) and must be a suitable size and resolution for reproduction.

Read our complete policy at left.

• How do I subscribe to the newspaper?

Purchasing a subscription to the Leader is easier than ever. You may send a check to P.O. Box 509, Mountain View, AR 72560 or sign up electronically through this site. Visit our subscription page to see options for 3-month, 6-month, 1-year and online-only subscriptions.

• Why does my newspaper come so late in the mail?

We mail our newspapers each week at the same time, taking the entire mailing to the post office on Tuesday mornings (which is the day before the official publication date). When we delivery the newspapers to the post office, they are already labeled and in mail sacks that are addressed to the proper post office or sorting facility. We have no control over what happens after that, but we will be happy to double-check your address and make sure we have the correct information. For missed deliveries, we can file a “publication watch” through the post office and sometimes that helps. Unfortunately, that is the extent of our options and we suggest you contact your post office. You may wish to use the “report a delivery problem” link at left to alert us to your problem.

• What do ads cost?

There are several different options for advertising. Classified ads are 15 cents per word with a $3 minimum. Subscribers are offered free classified ads (20 words) for non-commercial use. The cost of Display ads is determined by the space required, and there are rates that offer frequency and non-profit discounts.

Click here for complete advertising rates.

• Can you take credit card payments?

Yes, we can now process credit card payments both over the telephone and through this website.

• How do I submit a photograph?

You may submit photographs either in print form or through e-mail. Prints may be color prints. Photos may be e-mailed to ed@stonecountyleader.com along with complete information about the photo. The preferred format is Jpeg at 200 dpi, though 72 dpi can be accepted if the size is sufficient.

• Will the Leader cover my event?

Our staff is limited in how many events we can cover in person, but please let us know what you have scheduled. We welcome event sponsors and families to submit photos and information about their activities. Photos that show action are preferred over posed group shots, even if everyone involved cannot be in the photo. In cases where we cannot cover events, we will still write the article if someone will submit the information.
