A Stone County man was killed Friday afternoon while he and a friend attempted to launch a fishing boat at Martin Access, according to Sheriff Brandon Long.
Vincent Rutledge, 62, of Mountain View was backing a 2003 Ford truck and boat on a trailer down the boat ramp and could not get the truck to shift into park. Rutledge crawled underneath the truck to check the linkage and was fatally injured when a rock used to scotch a tire failed to hold and the truck rolled over him. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The incident occurred around 2 p.m.
"We extend our condolences and prayers for the family," Long said.
