Motorcycle Event Still Simmers

Move To September No Advantage This Year

Posted

Temps that climbed into the upper 90s despite the September date seemed normal for the annual Mountains Music & Motorcycles event, and Mountain View Chamber of Commerce officials hope the date change will pay off in future years. They will try again Sept. 17-18, 2027.

A cooling tent with fans offered welcomed shade with a view of many games and contests over the two days such as the pie eating and pepper eating contests and tattoo contests.

Competitions included the first sanctioned arm wrestling competition, hosted by the Stone Pullers group of Mountain View and conducted by the Slam Jam organization operated by competitors Kevin Parish and Shane Clayton.

Other events such as loudest pipes you could hear far beyond the sight line.
Saturday’s stunt show was smokin’ as up to three riders performed burnouts along Washington Street on the north side of the courtsquare. Wheelies provided a respite from the smell of burned rubber and the crowd cheered members of the 12 O’Clock Shop, including a female who nearly touched the pavement with her head at one point as the bike went vertical.

There was a variety of live music on the courthouse stage, with Jude Brawner, Brewster and Company, and Cliff and Susan on Friday, while Boone, Scott and Roni, Red 21 and Bad Habit performed on Saturday.

As always, RU4C conducted charity poker runs both days, and Mountain View Classic Cruizers held a car show at Centennial Bank on Saturday.

Events such as Chicken Bingo, where onlookers place their money on the square they think will be first to catch a dropping from one of the live chickens, and mini trike races provided comic relief.

Biker games such as the weenie bite, plank run and slow ride drew contestants to test their skills in aim and balance.
