Mountain View High School’s Homecoming game delighted the hometown fans Friday night (Sept 18) as the Yellowjackets shut out Manila Lions 35-0.
The ’Jackets came out in the first quarter and scored a touchdown on a 9-yard run by junior George Rector. The extra point kick hit the upright and failed for a 6 to 0 lead.
Rector scored the next touchdown on a pass interception and a 49-yard return. Quarterback Noah Davis threw a pass to tight end Trent Hudspeth for two points to extend the lead to 14-0.
Junior Micah Moore scored the next touchdown on an 8-yard run. The extra-point kick was good to make it 21 -0.
Noah Davis passed to Rector for 27 yards and the next touchdown, but the extra point kick was blocked and the teams went to the locker rooms for halftime with Mountain View leading 27 to 0.
Early in the second half, Rector found the end zone again on a 41-yard run followed by a two-point pass from Davis to junior Kohl Cook rounding the score to 35 to 0.
The mercy rule was triggered by the 35 -point lead and the clock only stopped for time outs and injuries, so the game ended quickly with no more scoring.
A second field goal attempt by the ’Jackets hit the upright and bounced the wrong way, and Mountain View was able to run out the clock.
Defensively, Miles McIntire lead with tackles including six for losses. Alaska McDaniel was second leading tackler. Cord Goodman batted down a couple of passes at the line.
This Friday the Yellowjackets play at home versus their first conference opponent, the Newport Greyhounds.
