Yellowjackets Shut Out Marshall 43-0

Posted

The Mountain View Yellowjackets traveled to Marshall Friday night (Oct. 2), and came home with a shutout victory 43 to 0.

The 'Jackets' first score came on a George Rector 9-yard run and a Trace Meyers point after kick. The defense scored next following a bad snap and a Yellowjacket recovery in the end zone for a 2 point safety for a 9 to 0 lead.

Quarterback Noah Davis scored a touchdown on a 46-yard run, but the kick missed for a 15 to 0 lead at halftime.

Things got worse for the Bobcats in the second half when  Rector scored on a 57-yard run. Trace Meyers’ kick made it 22 to 0.

Davis ran for the next touchdown on a 6-yard run and  Meyers’ kick made it 29 to 0.

In the fourth quarter, Rector scored again on a 25-yard run, and  Meyers kicked the point-after for a 36 to 0 lead.

The mercy rule begins when one team gains a 35-point lead, and the clock doesn’t stop except for time outs and injuries. However, Lincoln Cook broke loose on a 53-yard run, and the point-after kick brought the final score to 43 to 0.

Total yardage for Mountain View was 493 compared to 190 yards for Marshall. This was the second shutout for the Yellowjacket defense so far this year.

The Junior and 7th Grade Teams also won their games Thursday night in Mountain View.

Friday, Oct. 9, the Yellowjackets play at home against the Melbourne Bearkatz.
